A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
Major Mark Bieger cradles a young Iraqi girl wounded by cowardly terrorists during a terrorist attack in Mosul. The girl died despite Maj. Bieger's heroic efforts.
This photo was taken by Michael Yon near Mosul, Iraq after terrorists attacked U.S. forces while children were crowding around waving at the American soldiers. Michael Yon is a freelance journalist embedded with Maj. Bieger's unit. As Mr. Yon states in his blog:
"...the terrorists could just as easily have waited a block or two and attacked the patrol away from the kids. Instead, the suicide bomber drove his car and hit the Stryker when about twenty children were jumping up and down and waving at the soldiers."
Maj. Bieger took some soldiers and rushed the child to the hospital, but she did not make it. Once again we can compare and contrast. The dirty terrorist scum that the left, liberal media, and U.N. love to legitimize attacks 20 children. Time and again we have these cowardly terrorists striking at innocent Iraqis thinking that they can stop freedom from taking hold there through fear and death. These terrorists offer no alternatives, no solutions, and no hope for the Iraqi people. They only promise to bring death and destruction and to keep the Iraqi people in the Dark Ages.
In contrast the American soldiers prove everyday why we are the greatest military in the world. With precision, professionalism, and compassion American soldiers bravely fight to defeat the murderous butchers that want to destroy freedom in Iraq and once again enslave the good people. This story is one of many where an American soldier gallantly tries to defend and save the lives of innocent people they do not even know. No military in the history of the world has done so much to preserve the life of innocent people. Often to the detriment of the mission the American military tries so hard to eliminate collateral damage. Never have we seen soldiers trying so hard to save the lives of wounded children. In this case a helicopter gunship that could have been used to destroy the terrorists who committed this act, was diverted to Medevac this young Iraqi girl. Once again it was innocent life trumping the mission priority. We could wipe the enemy out of Iraq in one month if we wanted to. Unfortunately we would kill many innocent people in the process. Therefore we fight using the greatest amount of discretion ever shown by a military force. The result is American soldiers dying instead of thousands of Iraqi children. It is a sacrifice that many Americans have made and many more are willing to make everyday.
